About Us

DIAS is a registered charity that supports those affected by domestic abuse.

Who are DIAS?

We are a specialist provider of support, advice and counselling for the entire Wigan and Leigh Borough.

Since October 2020 DIAS has been commissioned by Wigan Council to deliver WBDAS- Wigan Borough Domestic Abuse Service. This is a joint project between DIAS Domestic Violence Centre and the Well Women Centre, Leigh

We are here to provide advice of the choices available.  We work to empower and support anyone affected by domestic abuse to decide what is best for them and their family.

Know your rights.

We believe everyone has the right to live life with respect and without fear, violence or abuse.

Domestic abuse is far more common than you might think – 1 in 4 women & 1 in 6 men will experience some form of domestic abuse in their lifetimes. In the UK alone, two women each week and one man every three weeks are killed by their partner or former partner.

All forms of domestic abuse – psychological, financial, emotional and physical – come from the abuser’s desire for power and control over an intimate partner or other family members. Domestic abuse is repetitive and life-threatening; it tends to worsen over time and it destroys the lives of those affected.

At DIAS we know how hard it can be to recognise that domestic abuse is happening, and how hard it can be to find the right help and support at the right time.

DIAS Can Help You

If you feel that you have been impacted by domestic abuse then DIAS can help you. There is no reason for you to try to cope alone, so please do come into our Drop in Centre or give us a call. We are here for you.

Every situation is unique but there are some common factors that link together the experience of an abusive relationship. Acknowledging these factors is an important step in preventing and ending the abuse. At DIAS, we can help you to understand the workings of your relationship and decide if you feel that we can support you. We will never tell you what to do, but will listen to you, advise you of the choices available to you and help you to make your decisions.
