Support offer for Children and Young people in the Wigan Borough.
Healthy Relationship Sessions
- These sessions are aimed at children from 4 years old to 18 years old.
- Delivered in schools by professionals.
- Each session is age appropriate and structured carefully.
- Each section is planned to enhance children’s knowledge on healthy and unhealthy relationships as they progress through their school years.
- Children are introduced to Domestic Abuse, developing an understanding of the term and the different types of abuse.
- Children will identify the difference between abuse and conflict.
- Children will explore abusive behaviors.
- Content aligns with Department for Educations PSHE curriculum.
Freedom Flowers Programme
- Suitable for primary school aged children (4-11 years).
- Small group sessions.
- Trained practitioners lead the programme.
- Helps children to process and understand what they have experienced.
- Gives the children a voice and allows them to be heard.
- Uses a trauma informed approach.
Direct support – 1 to 1 or small groups
- Support offered to children from 5-17 years old.
- Healing Together qualified practitioners
- 1-2-1 sessions.
- Small group sessions.
- Carried out over 6 sessions. (may be extended if required)
- Child does not need to talk about their experiences of domestic abuse.
- Concentrates on safety and calming coping strategies.
- Emotional and practical support.
- Psycho- educational support in understanding healthy relationships
Counselling
Childrens counselling is an offer delivered by the Well Women Centre and schools can make these referrals directly.

Expect Respect Toolkit
Our dedicated schools facilitator will contact the schools within the Wigan Borough to invite them to take part in delivering the Healthy Relationship workshops.
Schools can also contact the service directly to request the sessions.

All schools have the referral document to arrange sessions for any children identified (either via Op Encompass or disclosures) .
